Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Panel

The Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) panel will take place on Tuesday afternoon (16.30-18.10) and will include two sessions. These panel discussions will be available in a hybrid in-person/virtual format to enable broad participation and engagement. The panel is supported by the SMB DEI Committee.

Equity of paths into mathematical biology

The goal of this session is to highlight diverse paths and identify actions to better support trainees with diverse background and career trajectories entering academic careers in mathematical biology. The session will start with describing personal perspectives on career trajectory by Miranda Lynch, Luis Sordo Vieira and Aurélie Carlier, followed by a discussion on the topic.

Building inclusive graduate programs in mathematical biology

This session will discuss ideas about building inclusive graduate programs in mathematical biology. The session will begin with short presentations by the panelists Alun Lloyd, Alla Borisyuk, Juliane Liepe and Gibin Powathil about their Mathematical Biology programs and their experience in creating such programs, followed by a discussion with questions and answers.
